CSR commitment pays off

Companies are part of society. They take responsibility, commit in various ways and to different social, cultural or sports projects at their locations, in their employees’ home country. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) pays off in the long term – both for society and for companies.

Social Responsibility

There is a long tradition of Corporate Social Responsibility at HARTING. These values have been integral to this family owned and managed company since it was founded in 1945, and have imbued the vision of the HARTING Technology Group since 1996.

HARTING assumes Corporate Social Responsibility through its awareness of the effects of its business decisions and actions in terms of economics, technology, society and the environment, achieving a sensible balance between these various interests. Wherever it is able, HARTING is happy to contribute to the wellbeing and sustainable development of the global society around its various operational sites. In doing this, HARTING is following universally accepted ethical values and principles, especially in terms of honesty, integrity and respect for human dignity.

Certified CSR Management System

In assuming its Corporate Social Responsibility, HARTING is adhering to ISO 26000 - Guidance Standard on Social Responsibility – and has a certified CSR Management System in place at its companies HARTING Deutschland GmbH & Co. KG, HARTING Electric GmbH & Co. KG, HARTING Electronics GmbH and HARTING  AG & Co. KG. The company-wide CSR Management System was introduced on the basis of ISO 26000, which was issued in November 2010. Given that this standard only acts as guidance, and is not certifiable itself, Austrian standard ONR 192500 and Spanish standard RS 10 were used as the basis for certification, as they cover the core areas of ISO 26000 and give clear requirements for implementation.

Climate protection companies

The Association of German Chambers of Commerce and Industry (DIHK) has also awarded HARTING the accolade of "Climate Protection Company" under its Partnership for Climate Protection, Energy Efficiency and Innovation with the German Environment Ministry, its climate protection initiative and the German Ministry for Economic Affairs. 33 climate protection companies have been recognised to date by the DIHK project with the German government.

ZVEI "Code of Conduct"

HARTING is also committed to compliance with the Code of Conduct of Zentralverband der Elektrotechnik- und Elektronikindustrie e.V. (ZVEI - German Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers‘ Association), which sets out the principles for socially responsible corporate conduct and is based on ISO 26000.

CSR commitment honoured

Harting Technology Group has been recognised and honoured for its commitment to CSR. In September 2016, rating agency EcoVadis awarded HARTING AG & Co. KG gold status for its commitment. This puts HARTING in the top performing five per cent of electronic component manufacturers.

In June 2015, HARTING won Bombardier Transportation’s “Supplier Sustainability Award 2015”. This is how the Canadian transport technology company, whose railway technology operations are managed globally from Berlin, annually rewards suppliers who have proven their credentials in terms of sustainable product and supplier development, and demonstrated an exceptional level of social responsibility. The panel highlighted the management system’s commitment to social responsibility in line with ISO 26000. This system has been certified by an independent external auditor since 2011.
