Simply connect electrically and transmit optically

Powerful electrical drives are controlled by IGBT semiconductor elements. In order to achieve the necessary galvanic isolation between the controller and driver board, data are transferred via fibre optic cable. HARTING has broken new ground here and offers miniaturised interface solutions with integrated electro-optical conversion. The result: the customer saves time and money.

IGBT module

Electric motors with more than 500 KW output, e.g. those used on ships, in trains or pump stations, use IGBT semiconductors for speed regulation. These can switch large loads using very low control power.

Since insulation and voltage requirements are very high, plastic optical fibres (POF) transmit the signals required for IGBT control. The POF fibres ensure interference-free and galvanically isolated signal transmission.

In order to simplify the connection of POF fibres, save space on the controller board and reduce downtime during service, HARTING integrates electro-optical conversion into application-specific connectors. As a result, the customer saves both time and expenses.

For traction control on trains, a solution for up to 16 optical channels is available in DIN D20 metal housing. In harsh industrial environments, a Han 10A housing variant in IP 65/67 offers up to eight channels. The portfolio is rounded out by a pluggable 8-channel module for direct connection to the circuit board in the switch cabinet.

The fibres are connected in all variants by means of a metal clip which attaches the fibers without any additional optical contact. In addition to the possibility of field assembly, HARTING offers the modules as ready-to-use and tested cable assemblies – a compact, robust and service-friendly solution that provides the user with security and cost Advantages.
