How to improve your power, signal and data

Improving the transmission of power, signal and/or data is a challenge many companies face, as it can impact output, efficiency, capacity and general everyday tasks. Whether you’re powering equipment in a harsh environment, supplying data to a network of machines for production or signalling automated processes, such as robotics for manufacturing.

HARTING offer a wide range of Electronic products to help improve your power, signal and data. The products highlighted below are proven to be a reliable solution for machinery, automation technology and railway application. They also support the trend towards modularisation and miniaturisation which are key aspects of Industry 4.0.

har-flex® and har-flexicon®

Both the har-flex® and har-flexicon® ranges provide wire-to-board connectivity for a wide variety of applications.

  • har-flex® provides continuous scalability which makes custom solutions possible for all customer requirements. Therefore, har-flex is ideal for applications that require miniaturised designs and high variability as the pin counts are available in pairs from 6 to 100. Available as mezzanine, extender cards, mother-to-daughter cards or cable-to-board.
  • har-flexicon® is designed for tool-less connection of single wires and a SMT/SMC reflow soldering process, providing efficient processing for device production and installation. The product family is available in the following pitches: 1.27mm, 2.54mm, 3.50/3.81mm, 5.00/5.08mm, 10/10.6mm and 15mm.

DIN 41612

DIN 41612 can be used in both board-to-board and cable-to-board applications and can signal and power. In addition, this product line is the best choice for applications with stricter vibration, ruggedness and robustness requirements, such as machinery construction, automation technology and railway applications. DIN 41612 has three large families, Power Connectors, Signal Connectors and matching models of har-bus 64® Series.

DIN Power

This is preferred in applications that require robust connectors or higher currents up to 40 A. It is available with a variety of shell housings and accessories, including full metal versions, which guarantee the necessary robustness and ensure a continous shield from cable into the rack.

DIN Power connectors are available with 3 – 48 contacts. These are available with solder, crimp, wire-wrap, cage clamp, fast-on and press-in termination. The working current options available are 6A and 15A per contact with mixed signal and power connectors capable of up to 40 A.

DIN Signal

The best choice for applications with stricter vibration and ruggedness requirements, such as machinery, automation technology and railway applications. The Male and Female connectors feature a constant pitch of 2.54mm which ensures high contact density and necessary robustness.

DIN Signal connectors are available with 16-160 contacts, with a range of solder, IDC, crimp, wire-wrap and press-in terminations. The range includes high-temperature SMC connections which are compatible with the reflow process. To provide secure application to the board, HARTING use kinked pins to provide reliable fixing to the board. Board locks are also available for added security.

HARTING har-bus® 64

Designed for use in VME 64x applications and are 100% forwards and backwards compatible with DIN 41612 type C. This enables the system to be extended by two more rows without having to rework all daughter cards. In addition, this product improves signal / ground configuration by ensuring transmission rates of up to 320 MBytes/s (VME bus), 1.25 Gb/s (Gigabit Ethernet) or 3.125 Gb/s (serial, point-to-point).

The HARTING har-bus® 64 connectors are available up to 160 contacts, with additional connector contacts for I/O or future functionality. Furthermore, the range is standardised according to IEC 61 076-4-113.

D-Sub

D-Sub connectors are an industry standard for cable-to-board connectivity applications and the HARTING range provides a universal solution for specific customer applications, such as military, industrial, commercial and computer interfacing applications. There is a variety of D-Sub connectors ranging from high density, mixed, waterproof and filtered.

D-Sub High Density

This provides higher density of contacts within the standard D-Sub shell pattern. A high number of contacts allows design engineers to enhance their equipment by including more data paths with the same panel cut out.

These connectors consists of 15 to 78 straight and right angled solder termination and crimp or solder cup cable mount versions, which extends the contact capacity of the standard D-Sub up to 70%.

D-Sub Mixed

An industry standard I/O interconnect product with the flexibility to customise for any application. This is because the range is designed around the standard D-Sub shell sizes with the option to have a blend of contacts such as signals with coaxial, power, high voltage or pneumatic contacts.

HARTING mixed D-Sub connectors are fully shielded which helps reduce the EMI/RFI leakage. For connectors to be fitted on a board with SMT components, they can be supplied in an SMC (PiHIR) version which is assembled in the reflow solder process, thus reducing assembly cost. In addition, a full SMT version is available.

D-Sub IP 67

Fully dedicated to fluid resistant applications and fulfils the rigorous requirements of IP 67. This product family is aimed at equipment placed in harsh environments, indoors and outdoors, where connectors are exposed to moisture, dust and dirt. D-Sub IP 67 connectors can be used in industrial machinery, process control, mobile equipment and instrumentation.

Complete solutions are available for PCB and cable mount applications. The cable connector range is complemented by a selection of hoods. For PCB applications, connectors for water resistant panel mounting purposes are available, with or without rear frame. Most D-Sub IP 67 connector variants are available from 9 to 50 contacts.
