Background and History of T1 Industrial Ethernet

SPE Explained: What are the Speeds and Distances Possible with Single Pair Ethernet?

T1 Industrial® Introduction

The first Single Pair Ethernet starting point was released by Broadcom in 2011, called BroadR-Reach®, supported by industry leading automotive and technology companies. Single Pair Ethernet was standardized in 2015 within the IEEE sub-group 802.3bw. This group outlined that two-wire technology could reliability and consistently reach speeds of 100Mbit per second at 15 meters when using an unshielded cable, and 40 meters when using a shielded cable with a bandwidth across both lengths of 166 MHz. HARTING saw the capabilities possible of this new physical media, as well as the need for more speeds and varying lengths for different application, and knew that a common mating interface would be essential to the success of the technologies implementation globally. R&D began in late 2015 at HARTING’s global headquarters in Espelkamp, Germany to develop this common industrial standard.
