First CO2-reduced connector components reach market maturity

Decarbonisation is well underway, especially in the European Union. More and more areas of everyday life are being electrified in line with the All Electric Society (AES) and sectors are being sensibly coupled. However, the synergies of sector coupling and the associated increases in efficiency are only one of the keys to achieving climate neutrality. Manufacturing companies are required to critically scrutinise the components of their products.

The HARTING Technology Group is also living up to its ecological responsibility regarding the carbon footprint of its connectors and is launching the first CO2-reduced connector contact inserts from the Han® E series in sizes 6B to 24B with the HARTING GreenLine.

ISCC+ certification for connector inserts made from bio-based plastics

The previous manufacturing process for the inserts for Han® industrial connectors utilised mineral raw materials. The use of new, bio-based plastics now makes it possible to reduce the CO2 footprint for the first time. The new bio-polymer is produced according to the principle of mass balancing using renewable instead of purely fossil raw materials. It fulfils the criteria of the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC+) and offers a CO2 reduction of up to 70% (refers to certified bio-circular polycarbonate).

The use of the HARTING GreenLine therefore has a positive effect on the environmental balance of the manufacturing process of a device or a machine / system for customers. The ISCC+ certification enables complete traceability of the materials used along the entire supply chain. Customers can thus improve their CO2 balance.

Digital product passport facilitates access to the Product Carbon Footprint (PCF)

The digital product passport introduced at HARTING in 2023 provides easy access to the Product Carbon Footprint (PCF). The product passport can be called up using a QR code on the housing or connector insert. It provides all relevant manufacturer information, the Asset Administration Shell (AAS) and the PCF. Products from the new HARTING GreenLine also feature the ISCC+ logo.

Your benefits at a glance:

  • Up to 71% CO2 savings 61% renewable material (refers to certified bio-circular polycarbonate)

  • Complete traceability of the materials used along the entire supply chain enabled by ISCC+ certification

  • Easy access to PCF by scannable digital product passport
