Faster processing of turned contacts

HARTING is launching a solution that processes turned contacts on reel to speed up cable assembly in semi-automatic and fully automatic crimping machines. High-quality contacts can thus be crimped onto conductors in a matter of seconds.

There are currently two ways of feeding contacts to automatic crimping machines: one involves separating the contacts in vibrating bowls, the other uses specially prepared contact strips that are fed from a reel into the machine. The second method is faster, but until now only strips with stamped contacts were available for this purpose.

Plastic belt accommodates turned Han® contacts

HARTING has therefore developed a crimp change unit for semi-automatic and fully automatic crimping machines that can be used to process high-quality turned Han® contacts on reels. The plastic belt is a new feature: it enables the contacts to be held securely in place and positioned precisely during processing. Corresponding solutions are available for conductor cross-sections from 0.14 to 6 mm². The HARTING Crimp Change Unit is suitable for common semi-automatic and fully automatic machines from manufacturers such as Schäfer, Komax and Schleuniger.

The decision to use contacts on reel is worthwhile where larger quantities of turned contacts are produced with semi-automatic or fully automatic crimping machines, thus reducing the costs per unit. HARTING experts are happy to support interested parties with data for the corresponding calculations.

Crimp cycle of one second possible

Manufacturers using the HARTING Crimp Change Unit may process a total of 34 different contact variants with the above-mentioned conductor cross-sections. HARTING supplies the Crimp Change Tool as well as the contacts on reel. This enables fully automatic machines to achieve work cycles of just a second for stripping and crimping. With the right fully automatic crimping machines, users do not only save on processing but also on personnel costs.

Kamil Rezmer, Product Manager Tools at HARTING Electric: “The Crimp Change Unit is a sensible investment for cable assemblers and manufacturers who crimp in large quantities, for example in the fields of wind energy and mechanical engineering, automation, as well as for all customers who already use semi-automatic or fully automatic crimping machines.”
