Sector coupling is at the heart of the All Electric Society. It makes it possible to optimise the use of energy generated exclusively from renewable sources - from generation to conversion and storage through to consumption.

In an electrified world, there is no device that can function without the appropriate power supply and communication. This communication between all participants is the key to sustainable energy generation and the necessary efficiency gains.

HARTING is involved when it comes to thinking about power for data transmission. This opens up scope for innovations. New interfaces and hybrid connection concepts are emerging, which are driving data and energy forward together.

Successful sector coupling depends decisively on smooth energy transmission. To this end, HARTING is constantly developing and refining its products and, with its innovative connectors and cable systems, is providing the key connectors between and within the sectors. For GBU Electric the importance of components counts. The AES presupposes a more extensive use of connectors, as these are pivotal for coupling the electrical backbone of all sectors.

Complementary to the connector portfolio, HARTING commands in-depth, comprehensive expertise in the field of cabling thanks to HARTING Customised Solutions (HCS). HCS is also well equipped to meet the requirements of the AES and supports the strong focus on holistic connectivity for power.

This means that HARTING's contribution to sector coupling lies in the use of conergent transmission technologies with connectivity that is perfectly adapted to the application.

Industrial connectivity plays a crucial role as an enabler for the electrification and digitalisation of our society. A reliable supply of power and data is essential to achieve energy efficiency, maximum performance and productivity.

In order to bring the sectors closer together, we need to pursue the transition from individual, sector-based solutions to open technologies and standards even more consistently. The connecting elements between the sectors will be energy - in this case electricity - and data flows.

Already established technology standards such as Ethernet IEEE 802.3, the digital twin standard IDTA, ODCA for direct current technology and OPC UA for standardised data exchange are key levers for integrating the sectors.

International standards are an important orientation for our products, but they do not make individual requirements superfluous. For example, environmental conditions, such as use under water, remain a characteristic differentiator in our product development.
