All Electric Society

What is the All Electric Society?

We are facing crucial challenges in our world: Decarbonisation, sustainability and demographic change. In the face of these challenges, a common vision of the future is essential: the All Electric Society.

It represents a world that is both highly electrified and digitalised as well as meeting the criteria of climate neutrality. With renewable energies, smart grids and the electrification of industrial processes - but also our mobility, infrastructure and even agricultural technology.

What role do industrial connectors play in the All Electric Society?

Industrial connectivity plays a crucial role as an enabler for the electrification and digitalisation of our society. A reliable supply of power and data is essential to achieve energy efficiency, maximum performance and productivity.

Since 1996, HARTING has been following a vision that is more relevant today than ever before: ‘We want to shape the future with technologies for people.’

To realise this vision, we develop innovative industrial connectors and cable solutions for a wide range of applications within the All Electric Society. In doing so, we are setting new standards, both for you as a customer and for a climate-neutral future.

What applications does the All Electric Society combine?

Sector Visual - The way to open technologies

In the All Electric Society, various sectors play a central role in ensuring a CO2-neutral energy supply. At HARTING, we focus on the following sectors of our society:

  • ENERGY,

  • INDUSTRY,

  • MOBILITY,

  • INFRASTRUCTURE and

  • AGRICULTURE.

Each of these sectors is crucial to creating a sustainable and electrified world.

Sector coupling is at the heart of the All Electric Society. It makes it possible to optimise the use of energy generated exclusively from renewable sources - from generation to conversion and storage through to consumption.

All Electric Society

The way to open technologies

In order to bring the sectors closer together, we need to pursue the transition from individual, sector-based solutions to open technologies and standards even more consistently. The connecting elements between the sectors will be energy - in this case electricity - and data flows.

Already established technology standards such as Ethernet IEEE 802.3, the digital twin standard IDTA, ODCA for direct current technology and OPC UA for standardised data exchange are key levers for integrating the sectors.

International standards are an important orientation for our products, but they do not make individual requirements superfluous. For example, environmental conditions, such as use under water, remain a characteristic differentiator in our product development.

Why do we standards in the first place?

The topic of cross-organisational standardisation is very important for a technology company such as HARTING, which is also involved in industrial networking. Because standards mean compatibility, plain and simple. And this is essential to ensure reliability, security and interoperability.
