Blind mating supports energy system installation and maintenance

Heavy-duty connectors can contribute to the efficient establishment of power plants as well as of energy storage or electric power transmission systems. Among the advantages of connectors are quick exchange options in service cases, e.g. for measuring equipment.

In addition, pretested cable assemblies can provide for a faster installation. In addition, smart inside-cabinet interfaces connecting switchgears to cabinets, or cabinets to cabinets increase efficiency.

However, connectors are not always easy to use in the environment of energy systems, especially, where no direct view is possible or access is restricted. For such environments, HARTING has developed accessories that guide both sides of a connector into the right position for "blind" or "automatic" mating.

Han-Modular® Docking Frame

Among these accessories is the Han-Modular® Metal Docking Frame, which allows for the direct panel mounting of connectors, for example, on the wall of a switch cabinet.

The Docking Frame is suitable for countless different arrangements of Han-Modular® modules, drawn from a product range of over 100 connector modules for the transmission of power, signal or data. Using these frames, drawer systems for battery storages can be build up quickly and easily.

Han-Modular®

  • The market standard for modular industrial connectors

  • All-purpose use for data, signal and power

Han-Modular® Docking frame

  • Blind mating connector system for drawer systems

  • Leading centring system compensates for tolerances of +/- 2 mm

  • Very robust mechanical characteristics

  • Compatible with HMC components for 10,000 mating cycles

In battery storage systems, e.g., due to blind mating no special tools are needed for installing or removing the drawers in/from the storage units.

Possible applications include low and medium voltage switchgears as well as energy rack systems. It is also true that with the use of connectors, the mechanical design of battery storages and power generation systems can be changed more quickly – e.g. in order to later add Ethernet communication.
